Pictured (from left) are Sharleen Walkoviak, Pat Mann Phillips, Michael Hart, Jimmie Allen, Laura Kent, Debbie Adams and Paula Robinson.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s Wine Garden was buzzing Tuesday night.

Kudos to different Beast, featuring Buzz contributing photographer Michael Hart on bass, who rocked the Wine Garden under a full moon. Even though special guest Sharon Montgomery was feeling under the weather, her incredible voice left the crowd begging for more.

Speaking of the crowd, we loved hanging out with the Trailblazer Honorees from our A

February 2nd, 2012 9:08 am

We all get our moment of fame one way or the other.

Party guests at our 10th-anniversary celebration last week got a glimpse of the media spotlight when The Face Exchange took their photos and put them on miniature magnetized Buzz covers to take home.

A good many of the party-goers had been on actual Buzz Magazine covers already, but …

Looking back at the best of 10 years: The Shutterbugs

January 25th, 2012 4:46 pm
This Halloween-costume photo by Mike Hart was the result of darkroom magic.

Of course, The Buzz isn’t all about words. Where would we have been these past 10 years without photographers shining the light on our residents? Here are some favorite shoots:

Photographer Nikki LaWell: “Okay, the chickens, hands down. I never thought I’d photograph a chicken, ever. I hate chickens, but to photograph Laverne because she looks like her owner [Bellaire …

Looking back at the best of 10 years: Andy Blitzer

January 23rd, 2012 9:04 am
The large Garcia-Prats family made a lasting impression on writer Andy Blitzer. The 10 brothers are (from left) David, Chris, Jamie, Tommy, Matt, Timmy, Tony, Danny, Mark and Joe Pat.

Veteran Buzz writer Andy Blitzer had lots of choices when picking memorable stories from the past 10 years.  Here are a few she says she will never forget:

“It is so hard to say which one is my favorite. As a writer, there is a huge sense of responsibility to each person who shares his or her personal story and gives me the opportunity …

Looking back at the best of 10 years: Moms and Kids

January 20th, 2012 9:39 am
Geraldine Bliss and son Charles were featured in the 2010 story Special Moms of Special Kids.

Parenting is a meaningful topic for pretty much all of us, whether parents or children, or both. Maybe that’s why The Buzz has run so many stories on the topic in the course of our 10-year history.

Resident parents and kids made a big impact on these two longtime Buzz writers. This is what they had to say when asked …

One of magazine's many -- okay, two -- Cheryls.

Continuing to look back on 10 years of (mostly) blissful existence here at The Buzz….

After a chance meet-and-chat with a Buzz editor at a dog park, Cheryl Ursin started writing for us this fall, and we’re so happy she did. She has written stories about mandatory student-service hours and whether kids today are too dependent on their helicoptering

January 12th, 2012 7:17 pm
Editor Joni Hoffman credits these two M&M Lighting employees for saving her from falling in this ditch when it flooded this week.

Buzz Editor Joni Hoffman was one of many around here who were surprised by how quickly the water rose in Monday’s thunderstorms. Here’s her story. Do you have a waterlogged tale to tell too?

Thank you to Valentine Ezzy and Phyllis Briggs of M&M Lighting, who saved me from almost drowning in a ditch last Monday.

On that very wet …

Race to Nowhere screening Jan. 19

January 5th, 2012 12:21 pm
This documentary about education explores the topics of stress, cheating and too much homework in today's schools.

Do your kids have too much homework? Do they miss sleep in order to finish? Do they cave into the temptation to cheat because they can’t get it all done?

Vicki Abeles, a mother-turned-filmmaker, aimed her camera at the high-stakes, high-pressure culture that has invaded many of our schools and many children’s lives. Her documentary, Race to Nowhere, discusses a silent epidemic in schools, …

River Oaks' lights are spectacular.

It’s time to pack into the car and take a tour of neighborhood Christmas lights. Many neighborhoods in Houston are famous for their spectacular displays of bright lights, and we took a drive around River Oaks and Tanglewood to spot some of the best displays this year.

Even if it’s not the holidays, River Oaks Boulevard always shines.  As soon …
